The chief accountant of a cooperative in Nizhny Novgorod will stand trial for embezzling 2 million rubles.

      Incidents — An investigation into a criminal case of embezzlement has been completed in Nizhny Novgorod, the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported.

      The investigation established that a 61-year-old woman holding the position of chief accountant of one of the consumer cooperatives appropriated more than 2 million rubles.

      The case was handled by the department for investigating crimes in the Nizhegorodsky District of the Investigative Department of the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Nizhny Novgorod. It was opened on signs of a crime under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (misappropriation or embezzlement).

      According to the investigator, from January to May 2024 the accountant deliberately entered distorted information into the financial statements, drew up fictitious contracts and acts of completed work. The funds received, which belonged to the cooperative, were transferred to her personal bank account. The damage to the organization amounted to 2,216,081.46 rubles.

      The woman has been charged. She voluntarily returned part of the amount — 490,000 rubles.

      The investigation has now been completed, and the case materials will be referred to the court for trial in the near future. Under the law, such a crime carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to 10 years.
