A Nizhny Novgorod participant in the special military operation, a volunteer with the call sign "Veter," served on the front line as a sniper in an assault company. Despite having experience from mandatory service, before being sent to the special operation the volunteer completed training courses at a military training center.

"The requirements under a special military operation differ significantly from those during mandatory service. I looked for a chance to train and found it in Nizhny Novgorod, where experienced instructors teach important skills for free. After the training I went to the front to help my comrades," the volunteer said.

According to him, combat brotherhood and teamwork in the special operation zone are extremely important.

"We had a commander I trusted completely. He was a competent strategist and at the same time cared for us. The unit was a close-knit group despite differences in nationality and age. We supported each other and joked a lot so as not to lose heart. There was almost no free time, but we always found an opportunity to have a heart-to-heart talk," "Veter" said.

Humanitarian aid from Russian regions, including Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, is a great support in maintaining the fighters' morale.

"In the special operation zone you especially feel how united the people are in our common cause. Volunteers sent construction materials, which are always needed, clothes, food and even homemade pickles. It was important and touching for us to receive children's drawings and letters; they left no one indifferent. Together with trophies we would hang them in the dugouts — it's powerful support. And after returning home the best reward for me was when my granddaughter hugged me and said she was proud of me," the fighter says.

"Veter" is confident in Russia's victory.

"I believe that the special military operation is a duty for every man who must stand up to defend his Motherland, to protect his home, his country, his wife, mother, children and himself, after all. What pushed me to take part in the special military operation was the desire to defend our territories and fight Nazism. Mercenaries of the Armed Forces of Ukraine came to the combat zone as if on a safari. That hurt me deeply. Victory will be ours, the enemy will not pass. It's very simple — our cause is just, we will win!" the fighter says.

It should be recalled that the state provides material support to defenders of the Fatherland and helps their families. Those who sign a contract and go to the special military operation zone are also issued certificates granting 10 sotkas of land in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The certificate can be used two years after it is received.

In addition, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast operates a mechanism for concluding military social contracts, which additionally guarantee the contract serviceman's family 10,000 rubles per month for each child, benefits for utility payments, preschool services and other types of support. Individual assistance for the serviceman's family is also provided.

The coordination center for supporting servicemen, mobilized personnel and their families, operating at the House of National Unity, organizes the dispatch of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast residents to their place of service. At the same time, the region continues to actively support servicemen by sending humanitarian cargoes to the special military operation zone.

Detailed information about contract service and the provided equipment can be obtained at the Volunteer Recruitment Center by phone: 8-800-10-17-017 or on the website: https://служунн.рф/. The single selection point is located at: Nizhny Novgorod, 2 Lukina St.
