As reported by the press service of the Gorky Railway, during the summer transportation period from June 1 to August 31, 2025, almost 12 million passengers departed from the stations and terminals of the Gorky Railway on long-distance and suburban trains. About 9 million people used suburban trains, which corresponds to the figure for the same period last year, which was a leap year. Almost 3 million passengers were carried on long-distance services (+0.6%). “Demand for passenger transportation is especially high in the summer season. During this period, in suburban service we scheduled additional 'dacha' commuter trains on the most in-demand routes. Long-distance trains operated extra services to Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as to resorts in southern Russia,” said Sergey Dorofeevsky, head of the Gorky Railway — a branch of JSC Russian Railways. Among long-distance services, the most popular with passengers were trains running between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod (425,000 people), Kazan (226,000), Kirov (80,500) and Izhevsk (42,000). There was notable demand for trips to St. Petersburg from Nizhny Novgorod (53,600 passengers), Kazan (23,400) and Kirov (21,500), as well as from the Volga capital to Vladimir (37,400) and from Kirov toward Nizhny Novgorod (42,000).
