"The three-day rule does not exist," Katerina Bolshakova, press secretary of the search-and-rescue unit "Volunteer," told NIA "Nizhny Novgorod."

According to the expert, the widespread belief that a missing-person report can only be filed after three days is not true. "The search begins immediately," Katerina Bolshakova insists.

"It is important, immediately upon suspecting someone is missing, to mobilize all resources: inspect the last known location, question neighbors and acquaintances, contact emergency services and report the disappearance to the police."

The search-and-rescue team member emphasizes that the first hours are critically important — during this period the chance of finding a person alive reaches 95%.
