A ceremonial opening of a museum of the special military operation called "Heroes of Our Time" was held at Nizhny Novgorod School No. 140. The event was attended by the chairman of the city Duma, Yevgeny Chintsov, as well as deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Natalya Smotrakova, an SMO veteran and participant in the "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" program Igor Sychev, and the widow of Maxim Kharlamov, who died in the line of duty, Elena Kharlamova. This was reported by the city Duma press service.

The project was implemented at the initiative of the school leadership, which became a prizewinner of the "Together with a Deputy" grant competition. Thanks to this it was possible to acquire the necessary equipment. Teachers and students jointly collected materials, exhibits and recollections, and communicated with veterans and families of SMO participants.

School principal Tatyana Shirokova noted that since the start of the SMO, graduates of the institution have been taking part in the defense of the Motherland, and students actively support them: collecting humanitarian aid, writing letters and cards. According to her, the pupils enthusiastically took part in creating the museum.

Legislative Assembly deputy Natalya Smotrakova emphasized that such projects contribute to the patriotic education of young people and help preserve the memory of their fellow townspeople's feats.

SMO veteran Igor Sychev expressed confidence that the museum will become an important element in forming students' patriotic consciousness. He noted that in the children's eyes he sees understanding and a sincere response to what is happening.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is a display dedicated to Colonel Maxim Kharlamov, who died in the line of duty. His widow Elena Kharlamova expressed hope that the museum will become not only a place of remembrance but also a center for the patriotic education of future generations. Colonel Kharlamov's daughter, Darya, an 11th-grade student, added that she grew up in an atmosphere of patriotism and is convinced that a sense of responsibility for the country must be fostered from childhood.

Addressing the ceremony participants, Yevgeny Chintsov said the museum had become another bulwark in defending the country's historical heritage. He stressed the importance of students not only knowing history but also being able to understand contemporary challenges and problems.

The event concluded with a concert of patriotic songs.

Earlier it was reported that in Nizhny Novgorod honorary badges "Recognition" were presented to 11 mothers of fallen SMO soldiers.
