In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the police have taken more than 4,000 foreign nationals with document problems under control. A total of 4,335 people were entered into the register of controlled persons. As the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told NIA "Nizhny Novgorod," 3,202 of them are men and 1,133 are women.
The register of controlled persons is a centralized electronic database of the Russian Interior Ministry that records data on foreign nationals who have violated migration legislation, lost the right to lawfully stay in the country, or are subject to deportation or expulsion.
Being included in this register entails serious consequences: a ban on entering Russia, administrative expulsion, the blocking of bank accounts, as well as penalties for employers who hired such persons.
Until September 10, migrants could legalize their stay in Russia or leave. Otherwise, they would be deported.
It was previously reported that the police fined 828 Nizhny Novgorod employers for employing illegal migrants.
