A new graffiti dedicated to the symbols of Nizhny Novgorod and its famous sunsets has appeared on a support of the Kanavinsky Bridge. The work has been completed, the city's mayor Yuri Shalabaev reported on social media.
According to the head of the city, the artists depicted Nizhny Novgorod's core values: the city's founding place — the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Nativity Church as symbols of faith and history, as well as family and children. "Beautiful. In our style," the mayor noted.
The director of the Department of Social Communications and Youth Policy, Artur Shtoyan, clarified that the theme of the mural was chosen by Nizhny Novgorod residents themselves. He recalled that last year residents voted on whether to keep the "Crocodile" on the bridge or replace it with a new image. The majority chose to keep the old graffiti, but many proposed depicting Nizhny Novgorod sunsets. As a result, the new panel appeared on the other side of the bridge.
The painting shows a large family as a symbol of the country's future, a hot air balloon festival, views from the Fedorovsky embankment, the Nativity Church, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and sports facilities.
The work was carried out by a team of artists. Alexander Gurnyanskiy, who was entrusted with the views from the Fedorovsky embankment, said that more than 300 shades of paint were required for this. He noted that he strove to accurately convey all the details, and that Nizhny Novgorod residents were actively interested in the process during the work, photographing the artists and the painting itself.
"Silhouettes of children and parents are depicted on the wall, and passersby themselves came up with photographing themselves against that backdrop, turning it into a kind of challenge," the artist said.
Earlier, another historically themed graffiti appeared on Rozhdestvenskaya Street. There, behind the Stroganov Church, Nizhny Novgorod artists depicted scenes from the city's life at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.
