The "Japanese Center" in Nizhny Novgorod is closing. This was reported by Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
This decision will affect other branches across the country: a total of six offices will cease operations, including offices in Vladivostok, St. Petersburg, Khabarovsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
According to Hayashi, the reason was a sharp deterioration in relations between Moscow and Tokyo, as well as changes within Russia itself. He noted that the closure of the centers is a forced measure dictated by the current political situation.
The "Japanese Center for the Development of Trade and Economic Relations" was established in 2000 on the basis of an intergovernmental memorandum. The Nizhny Novgorod branch operated for more than two decades. The center hosted lectures, business seminars and short-term Japanese language courses. Some program participants had the opportunity to undertake internships in Japan.
Earlier it was reported that a photo exhibition "DPRK: Bridges of Friendship" (0+) opened in Nizhny Novgorod, timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Victory over militarist Japan.
