Police detained a gang of apartment burglars in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Police caught three repeat offenders red-handed in connection with a series of apartment burglaries in Nizhny Novgorod, the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

      The identities of the members of the criminal group were established during operational-search activities. Surveillance was then organized on them.

      At the end of July the perpetrators rented a car and went to a building where apartments had been marked in advance. One of them stayed outside while two entered the entrance to check the "markers." After finding the right keys, they forced the door and stole property, intending to take it away by car.

      However, they failed to complete the crime. They were detained on the spot by officers from the 9th Department of the investigative unit of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nizhny Novgorod police, with support from SOBR Rosgvardiya fighters.

      The detainees turned out to be previously convicted residents of the Burevestnik settlement in Bogorodsky District, aged 31 and 46, as well as a 43-year-old Nizhny Novgorod resident, who also has a prior conviction.

      A criminal case has been opened against the suspects. In addition, the investigation has established their involvement in eight other thefts committed in four districts of the city. During searches of their homes part of the stolen property was seized. All incidents have been combined into a single proceeding; the investigation continues.

      The court remanded the accused in custody.

      It is known that one of the victims was the family of a man who is currently in the special military operation (SMO) zone. He recorded a video message in which he thanked the police for their work.
