Telegram offers a variety of features to protect accounts from hacking, but not all users actively use them. The Ministry of Internal Affairs' Cybercrime Unit drew attention to the importance of security settings and reminded users of key precautions.
Experts recommend hiding your phone number in the messenger settings so that it is visible only to saved contacts. To access the app, you should enable two-factor authentication and set a cloud password. It is also important to regularly check active devices on which Telegram is logged in and to terminate suspicious sessions.
For additional protection, it is recommended not to store confidential information, such as scans of documents and bank details, in "Saved Messages." Malicious actors often look for this information after an account is compromised.
The agency also advises not to share Telegram login codes with third parties, to be cautious when clicking links from unknown senders, to avoid using websites and apps that require authorization via the messenger, and to regularly update passwords.
As previously reported by TV channel "360," Roskomnadzor restricted calls through Telegram and WhatsApp* to combat fraud, extortion and recruitment into sabotage and terrorist activities.
