On September 7 the longest total lunar eclipse in the past three years is expected. For an hour and a half the Moon will be in Earth's shadow and will take on a red or copper hue, reports 360.ru.
How the total lunar eclipse will unfold
The eclipse will begin at 18:28 Moscow time and end at 23:55. All phases together will last five hours and 27 minutes. The full umbral phase will last one hour and 22 minutes — from 20:31 to 21:53.
Phases:
• 18:28 — penumbral, almost imperceptible to the naked eye;
• 19:27 — partial, a noticeable darkening on the disk;
• 20:31 — start of total umbra, the Moon fully enters Earth's shadow and reddens;
• 21:12 — maximum of the eclipse, the blood moon is best seen;
• 21:53 — end of totality, the Moon begins to leave the shadow;
• 22:57 — exit from the shadow, the spectacular part ends, penumbral phase begins;
• 23:55 — end of the penumbral phase and of the entire eclipse.
The uniqueness of this event is linked to the duration of the umbral phase. A comparable eclipse in duration was observed on July 27, 2018 — then the Moon was hidden for one hour and 43 minutes. The longest remains the eclipse of August 13, 1859 — one hour and 46.5 minutes. The next blood moon will be seen on June 26, 2029 (one hour and 46.4 minutes), and after that such a long event will not occur until November 14, 2217.
Where it will be visible
The blood moon on September 7 can be observed everywhere the Moon is above the horizon at that time, including Antarctica, Asia, Africa and Europe. The phenomenon will be available to all Russians.
The Moscow Planetarium explained that the far western and northwestern regions will see the full phase from start to finish, central areas — in the evening, the Urals — late in the evening, Western Siberia — around midnight, and Eastern Siberia — after midnight. Almost everywhere, except Kamchatka, Chukotka and Magadan Region, the umbral stage will end before moonset. The full phase will not be visible only on the eastern tip of the Chukchi Peninsula, where by that time morning on September 8 will have arrived. In Moscow the eclipse can be observed in the southeastern part of the sky.
This is the second total lunar eclipse in 2025; the next is expected on March 3, 2026.
How it will affect people
Astrologer Boris Zak said that during eclipses the Moon's influence on the psyche intensifies: people more often show excitability, aggressiveness and a tendency to inappropriate actions. He recommends avoiding conflict situations and not provoking people with unstable behavior for three to four days before September 7 and the same amount of time afterwards.
At the same time the astrologer noted that the eclipse will occur in Pisces, which adds calming and peaceful energy. He also warned that Pisces can cloud judgment, so it's better to stay away from people with inappropriate reactions and to be cautious with calls from unknown numbers, so as not to fall victim to fraudsters.
Possible effects on the world
According to the expert, the September 7 eclipse will open an eclipse corridor. During this period politicians are expected to be more peace-minded, and the intensity of the foreign policy agenda will decrease, giving time to analyze current events and plan further actions. Closer to the solar eclipse on September 21 and after it, activity will increase and cooperation will strengthen, especially economically. At the same time the number of disasters may increase, primarily those related to air transport.
What is recommended and what to avoid
The astrologer advises devoting September 7 to meditation, spiritual practices and working with Tarot cards to analyze difficult questions.
During this period he recommends avoiding:
• communication with large numbers of people — contacts should be kept to a minimum;
• long drives — reaction may be dulled;
• risky actions and decisions;
• signing important documents;
• alcohol abuse.
