Four main entrance doors were recreated for the building at 15 Sergeevskaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by Oleg Berkovich, deputy governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, on his Telegram channel.
He noted that the image of the city is created not only by the efforts of the authorities but also by the hands of the residents themselves, who carefully restore houses, repair window surrounds and paint shutters. According to him, the ASIRIS School of Restoration plays an important role in this process in Nizhny Novgorod, where specialists bring elements of old architecture back to life.
A recent work by craftsmen Evgeny Pantsev and Alexander Avvakumov became a vivid example of a careful approach to heritage. They recreated four main entrance doors for a house that is a cultural heritage site.
The old doors were in a dilapidated condition, so the craftsmen turned to archival photographs. The new constructions were made of thermally treated oak selected with a view to decades of service.
As Berkovich noted, the doors are executed in a classical paneled technique with hand-carved elements. All parts were assembled using traditional technologies — with tenon-and-groove joints, almost without the use of glue. This will make it possible to repair the doors in the future if necessary.
Until spring 2026 the doors will be stored at the School of Restoration, after which they will take their place in the historic building, restoring its authentic appearance.
"This is how 'Russian style' is born today. It's wonderful to see love for one's city, street or place and the desire to make it beautiful," the deputy governor summarized.
Earlier it was reported that unique wooden churches and bell towers would be restored in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
