The Nizhny Novgorod administration has for the first time announced what is planned to be built on the site of the emergency "Vodnik" stadium. This was discussed at a meeting with residents of the Gorkovsky neighborhood.

According to the master plan being developed by the Institute for the Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Agglomeration, a sports and recreation complex will be built on the site. It is expected to include an indoor ice arena, a year-round soccer field and multi-purpose courts for various sports.

The facilities are expected to be available for training schoolchildren and pupils of children's and youth sports schools throughout the year.

As Anton Ermakov, director of the sports department, noted, the decision to close "Vodnik" was prompted by the emergency condition of the infrastructure. At the same time, almost 500 children who previously trained at the stadium have already been moved to other venues.

"Our main goal is safety. But we closed the stadium not forever, but so that a modern space for sports activities could appear here in the future," Ermakov said.

According to deputy head of the city Leonid Streltsov, the master plan is expected to be approved by the end of 2025. The timeframe may be shortened.

A Public Council for the "Vodnik" stadium is currently being formed.

It was reported that the stadium in the center of Nizhny Novgorod was declared structurally unsound. Access to it was closed on August 29. On the same day a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" visited the stadium and saw what the ruined facility looked like. A photo report was published on our website.

Later, the city administration's website published a decree indicating that 14 structures on the "Vodnik" site are planned to be demolished.
