      Society. The Rosselkhoznadzor Directorate for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mari El inspected more than 9.8 thousand tonnes of fresh vegetables and fruits for phytosanitary condition over eight months.

      The products came from 11 countries: Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, the Netherlands, Turkey, China, Serbia and Italy.

      About 4.2 thousand tonnes of vegetables were subject to control, including white cabbage, onions, peppers, beets and other crops. More than 5.7 thousand tonnes of fruits were also inspected — cherries, apricots, grapes, nectarines, plums and others.

      During the inspections specialists identified nine lots infected with quarantine pests: brown scale, mulberry scale and California scale.

      As clarified by the agency’s press service, the infected fruit does not pose a phytosanitary threat to the territory of Russia.
