      In 2025 nearly 1,300 hectares of forest will be restored in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Forestry.

      In particular, forests will be planted on 650 hectares as part of compensatory reforestation under requests from other Russian regions. Corresponding agreements have already been reached with the Republic of Buryatia and the Moscow Region.

      As explained by the head of the department, Roman Vorobyov, in a number of regions of the country carrying out reforestation work is hampered by climate, remoteness or high costs. Federal law allows in such cases for obligations to plant forests to be transferred to other regions where suitable conditions exist.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region plots for tree planting have already been identified in the Vetluzhsky, Varnavinsky, Vyksunsky, Buturlinsky and Sharangsky forestry districts. The work will be carried out by regional institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Forestry: the Semyonov Special Seed Forestry Enterprise, the Nizhny Novgorod Forest Fire Center and the Vyksa Forestry Enterprise.

      Compensatory reforestation in the region has been carried out since 2019. Over that time more than 1,900 hectares of new forest have been created. In 2025 the total volume of reforestation in the Nizhny Novgorod region, including both own and compensatory plots, will exceed 1,290 hectares.

      According to the regional Ministry of Forestry, the implementation of these measures will increase the area of new forests in the Nizhny Novgorod region by 6%.
