Today, on September 1, a secondary school in the town of Gorbatov in the Pavlovsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region reopened after a comprehensive major renovation, the regional government press service reported.
Among the honored guests were Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin, his deputy Andrey Checherin and the head of local self-government of the Pavlovsky municipal district Alexey Kirillov. The ceremonial assembly dedicated to Knowledge Day and the school's reopening gathered students, their parents and teachers.
Addressing the attendees, Gleb Nikitin congratulated students, parents and teachers on the start of the school year. He said he always awaits September 1 with a special feeling, recalling his own first day of school, and stressed that school becomes the place of first achievements and lifelong friendships. The governor added that the regional team is creating decent conditions for teachers to work and for children to gain knowledge, urging students to study and be bold: "Study, be bold!"
The regional head also emphasized that he chose this school for his first visit on the celebratory day. According to him, Gorbatov is famed for its rich history, and the local school, with a history of more than 200 years, is among the oldest in the region, where one can feel an atmosphere of enduring traditions. Nikitin noted that the school is small and multi-grade: this year four 11th graders will graduate. He highlighted the advantages of this format as effectively individualized instruction, where each teacher can devote maximum attention to students, and wished the school community joy and mutual support.
School principal Maria Stepanova showed guests the renovated spaces. They inspected the math, geography and chemistry classrooms, primary school classes, common areas, the library, the sports and assembly halls, and the canteen.
According to Deputy Governor Andrey Checherin, more than 120 million rubles were allocated to modernize the school in Gorbatov: over 108 million rubles went to repair works and another 12 million rubles were provided for the purchase of new equipment. He noted that much has been done for the safety and comfort of students and teachers: ventilation, fire suppression and heating systems have been upgraded. During the renovation attention was paid not only to learning areas but also to spaces for extracurricular activities: the assembly and sports halls and equipment were renewed, the school museum updated, and new equipment installed in classrooms and the canteen. According to Checherin, thanks to the regional project "All the Best for Children" of the national project "Youth and Children," truly comfortable conditions have been created.
Head of local self-government of the Pavlovsky district Alexey Kirillov added that nearly 130 children will attend the school in the new academic year. A distinctive feature of the institution is the implementation of adapted educational programs for children with health limitations and disabilities. He emphasized that the renovated school is the result of a large joint effort by a team of adults — from the regional government to the teaching staff and parents — and addressed the students with parting words: the new school offers every opportunity for learning and development, and much now depends on their efforts. "Have a good journey!" he wished.
It should be recalled that the national project "Youth and Children" has been implemented since 2025 by order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. It includes nine federal projects and programs: "Russia — a Country of Opportunities," "We Are Together," "Russia in the World," "All the Best for Children," "Leading Schools," "Teachers and Mentors," "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," "Universities for a Generation of Leaders" and "Professional Education."
Earlier reports said that for the start of the school year in the Nizhny Novgorod region four schools were built and 11 were comprehensively renovated. Among them, schools No. 188 and No. 96 in Nizhny Novgorod received new buildings.
