A special series of transit cards timed to the start of the school year and the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry has been issued in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The initiative was launched by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the operator of the Decade of Science and Technology — ANO "National Priorities."

The card design was created based on scientific developments by specialists of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center — VNIIEF in Sarov. They depict the UFL-2M installation, better known as the "Tsar Laser." This unique complex aspires to be the most powerful laser installation in the world. It is used for experiments in the field of controlled thermonuclear fusion and the study of the properties of matter under extreme conditions — at ultra-high temperatures and pressures.

Deputy Chairman of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Ekaterina Solntseva noted that the release of the cards is not only a practical initiative but also a way to underscore the significance of Russian scientific achievements. According to her, the project helps attract young people to promising professions of the future.

She reminded that this year the country's nuclear industry is celebrating its 80th anniversary. In her view, this date not only allows for remembering the merits of predecessors but also for telling which technologies are defining the development of science today. Solntseva emphasized that thanks to the new transit cards, scientists' achievements become closer and more understandable for Nizhny Novgorod residents of all ages, clearly showing how science opens new horizons and helps people.

From September 1, cards with the new design can be purchased at ticket offices of the Nizhny Novgorod metro. They are valid for all existing fare options: from an electronic wallet with free transfers to an unlimited travel pass for various types of city transport. The activation fee is 100 rubles, after which the card can be topped up with any amount, including via the "Siticard" mobile app.

In addition to Nizhny Novgorod, limited-edition cards will appear in Moscow and Moscow Oblast, as well as in Murmansk, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk, Kaliningrad, Arkhangelsk and Samara oblasts, Krasnodar Krai and Tatarstan.

Recall that the period from 2022 to 2031 has been declared the Decade of Science and Technology by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Its key goals are attracting young people to research and development, involving scientists in solving priority tasks for the development of the country and society, and increasing citizens' interest in and awareness of the prospects of domestic science.
