The new theatrical season has started in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Municipal theaters in Nizhny Novgorod are preparing to open the new season. This year audiences can expect a packed program that includes both beloved productions and new premieres. Yuri Shalabaev told city residents about this on his Telegram channel.

      The "Vera" Theater traditionally opens the season at the end of August. This year, on August 30–31, the theater will present to audiences the premieres from last year. For children and their parents a magical fairy tale, "The Scarlet Flower" (6+), will be shown, transporting viewers into a world of wonder and magic.

      The Youth Theater (TYuZ) is also beginning the season this weekend, presenting the premiere production "Barankin, Be a Man!" (6+). The play is staged based on the novella by V. Medvedev, written back in 1962 and still funny, relevant and popular.

      The Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after A.S. Pushkin will start the new season with the opera "Carmen" (18+) to the music of Georges Bizet — a story full of passion, jealousy and tragedy set in hot Seville (Spain) in the 19th century.

      The 228th season of the Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Drama Theater named after M. Gorky is scheduled to open on September 4 with the premiere of "The Government Inspector" (16+). The legendary comedy will be seen on the theater stage by Nizhny Novgorod residents 70 years after its last production, after more than one generation of spectators has passed.

      On September 7 the "Preobrazhenie" Theater will begin its 35th season. That day the theater will delight young Nizhny Novgorod residents with the premiere of the fairy-tale production "The Jester's Kingdom" (6+). For adult fans of physical drama, as part of the season opening the theater has prepared the legendary physical performance "Life in the Style of Tango" (16+), which has won the hearts of many viewers.

      The "Komediya" Theater will mark the start of its 79th season on September 10 and 11 with the premiere of the comedy "Khanuma" (16+). This production promises to become a bright event in the city's theatrical life.

      Three days later, on September 13, the Nizhny Novgorod Chamber Musical Theater named after V.T. Stepanov will present a gala concert (12+) to audiences, which will combine different genres and provide unforgettable impressions.
