Anastasia Kolchina, assistant at the Department of Hospital Pediatrics of the Privolzhsky Research Medical University, in an interview with the publication "We Live in Nizhny" shared an expert opinion on health risks for children sitting at school desks for the first time.

According to the specialist, one of the main problems is prolonged sitting during lessons. Such a static posture places increased strain on the spine and back muscles. As a result, a child may develop impaired posture, slouching, and, in the long term, scoliosis and chronic back pain.

The eyes also experience additional strain. First-graders have to strain their eyes when reading small print and looking at information on the board. This can lead to the development of myopia, astigmatism, and rapid eye fatigue.

In addition, changes in daily routine and diet also affect pupils' well-being. Kolchina noted that unfamiliar food in the school canteen and the absence of parental control over nutrition can cause stomach aches, nausea, and decreased appetite.

The expert emphasized that it is important for parents to monitor their children's health and consult specialists when necessary.

Earlier, residents of Nizhny Novgorod were told how to start leading an active lifestyle.
