      The third jury panel was dismissed in the case of the killing of a National Guard serviceman on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya in Nizhny Novgorod by children's coach Nikolai K., according to a segment of the program "By the Way."

      Recall that the conflict, which escalated into a knife fight, occurred in May 2021. The hand-to-hand combat coach, his friend and their wives went for a walk in the city center. National Guard servicemen were also relaxing there and began to harass their wives. The husbands intervened, and a brawl broke out.

      During the scuffle the coach's friend had his jaw broken, and Nikolai drew a knife and dealt a fatal blow to one of the National Guard servicemen. The man died of his injuries in hospital. After learning what had happened, the coach went to the police and confessed to what he had done.

      At first the jury panel unanimously acquitted Nikolai, but the prosecutor's office intervened. Prosecutors filed a complaint, and the verdict was overturned. As a result a new panel was assembled, but it was suddenly dismissed and another convened.

      It became known that the senior juror of the last group began boasting that he was the son of a prosecutor. He also claimed that he had been deliberately planted on the panel to secure a guilty verdict.

      "All his revelations were filmed by an acquaintance and passed on to the children's coach's friends, who then relayed them to the heads of the prosecutor's office and other law enforcement agencies," the report says.

      After that, the senior juror's mother was dismissed from her post as head of the state prosecutors department. On August 28 a new hearing in the case of the National Guard serviceman's killing took place; it was made closed. It is noted that the third jury panel was also dismissed.

      "The court decided that we will now consider the case in a closed session on the grounds that certain media stories have appeared that speak about the lives of the jurors," Nikolai's lawyer says.
