      Incidents. Police officers detained a resident of Nizhny Novgorod suspected of a brazen armed robbery and the theft of a BMW valued at 13 million rubles. The operation to apprehend the suspect was carried out in Bryansk with the assistance of local law enforcement, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported.

      The incident occurred in mid-August 2025. A 19-year-old resident of the Sovetsky District contacted the police, reporting an attack in an underground parking lot on 1st Oranzhereinaya Street. According to him, an unknown man in a balaclava, threatening with an object resembling a pistol, took possession of his high-end car.

      A few hours later the missing car was found on Shalyapin Street, but by that time the perpetrator had already fled. A criminal case was opened under Article 162, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "robbery causing particularly large damage." The maximum punishment under this article is up to 15 years imprisonment.

      During the investigation, Nizhny Novgorod police identified the suspect. He turned out to be a 21-year-old resident of the Kanavinsky District, who had no prior criminal record. After committing the crime he went to Bryansk, where he was detained as a result of joint actions by operatives from Nizhny Novgorod and the Bryansk Region.

      During interrogation the detainee admitted his guilt. He said he intended to use information about the car to blackmail the owner, hoping to receive a monetary reward for it.

      The court ordered that he be remanded in custody. Investigators are currently checking the man's possible involvement in other crimes committed in the region.

      Earlier it was reported that nearly 80 cars and motorcycles have been stolen in the Nizhny Novgorod Region since the beginning of the year.
