The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered a report on the progress of the criminal investigation related to the illegal actions of police officers in Arzamas. This was reported by the information center of the law enforcement agency.
The incident that sparked public outcry occurred in December of last year. According to information from social networks, the former head of the local police department, while driving a passenger car, ran over a resident of the village of Uspenskoye. The woman died of her injuries.
After the incident, his son (deputy chief for personnel) and other police officers arrived at the scene. They detained the deceased woman's cohabiting partner, used physical force against him and made threats. As a result, the man, who has a mental illness and is officially recognized as disabled, was forced to confess to beating the woman, which allegedly led to her death.
On the basis of the obtained confessions, a criminal case was opened against the man.
The Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region is conducting an investigation into this matter.
Alexander Bastrykin instructed the head of the regional Investigative Committee, Ayrat Akhmetshin, to provide a detailed report on the progress and results of the investigation. Control over the execution of the instruction was entrusted to the agency's central office.
Earlier it was reported that the former policeman will face trial for a fatal crash in Buturlino.
