Economy — State Duma deputy from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Yuri Stankevich commented on the situation in the fuel market, saying that he considers talk of a "gasoline crisis" speculative and unacceptable.
According to the parliamentarian, problems do indeed exist, primarily due to unscheduled repairs at a number of oil refineries, including those caused by terrorist attacks. However, as Stankevich stressed, current volumes of gasoline and diesel fuel production are sufficient to meet the country's domestic needs.
He also noted that Russia has an additional supply reserve under agreements with Belarus, and that production companies and regulators are acting in a coordinated manner, understanding the importance of ensuring fuel stability.
Stankevich added that it is wrong to blame citizens for creating panic demand for fuel.
"People react to the situation as they perceive it, and the task of the authorities is not to shift responsibility onto the population, but to ensure transparent and clear communication. Regional authorities should not remain on the sidelines. It is necessary to build a systematic dialogue with manufacturers, fuel suppliers, and owners of filling stations," the parliamentarian said.
The deputy also reported that in the coming weeks the government plans to submit amendments to the Tax Code to the State Duma. They will be aimed at increasing the economic efficiency of oil refining and reducing the volatility of exchange and wholesale fuel prices. Stankevich called this an important measure to stabilize the market situation.
