Half of the bridges in the Nizhny Novgorod region require repairs.

      More than 500 bridges and overpasses in the Nizhny Novgorod region require repairs. This was stated by the first deputy director of the Main Directorate for Highways of the region (GUAD), Aleksandr Denisov, at a meeting of the Legislative Assembly's transport committee on August 21, reports "Ъ-Приволжье".

      According to the official, of the 904 bridges of regional and intermunicipal significance, only 400 have been deemed to be in good or satisfactory condition. Thirty-nine structures on roads of regional significance are in an emergency state; the others are in pre-emergency and unsatisfactory condition.

      More than 24.5 billion rubles will be required to restore all the bridges, of which 3.7 billion are needed to repair the emergency structures, 10.8 billion for pre-emergency ones, and another 10 billion for the rest. These expenses account for almost two-thirds of the entire regional road fund, which in 2025 totals 33 billion rubles. The regional authorities plan to repair about 16 bridges in the near future.

      The GUAD noted that contracts for construction and installation work have already been signed for five emergency bridges, for two — for design, and two other projects are being implemented under full-cycle contracts that include both design and construction. Detours have been organized at two sites; the remaining structures are included in the design program.

      Special attention at the meeting was paid to the Borsky Bridge: up to 50 people work at the site during the day and up to 10 at night.

      Problems with contractors have also arisen in municipal districts where repairs are underway on bridges across the Tesha, Piana and Pizhma rivers. According to Denisov, the region lacks qualified contractors, and if repair rates are increased it may be necessary to attract companies from other regions of the country.

      The meeting also discussed the repair of flyovers in Nizhny Novgorod. Acting director of the city department for construction and repair of the metro, bridges and roads (GUMMiD), Aleksandr Kolupaev, said that 1.9 billion rubles will be required to reconstruct three flyovers. Under the national project "Infrastructure for Life" the city budget provides only 500 million rubles. The remaining funds are planned to be requested from the regional budget.

      However, the region's deputy minister of transport, Andrey Ermolayev, warned that obtaining additional funding from the regional treasury will be difficult. He noted that, despite meeting the indicators under the national project, it is possible to speed up repair rates only if additional sources of financing are available.

      Deputies of the Legislative Assembly took the information into account.

      Earlier it was reported that in September builders will begin laying asphalt concrete surfacing on the old Borsky Bridge.
