More than 90 km of tram tracks have been renewed in Nizhny Novgorod.

      A large-scale renewal of tram infrastructure continues in Nizhny Novgorod. At a meeting of the Transport and Road Management Committee of the Regional Legislative Assembly, deputies discussed current results and next steps for the modernization. This was reported by the press service of the Legislative Assembly.

      The presentation was given by the director of LLC "Ecological Projects," Evgeny Grabovsky. According to him, more than 90 kilometers of new tram tracks have already been built during the project implementation. In total, it is planned to reconstruct 150 kilometers of lines, 15 traction substations and three depots, and to purchase 170 modern tramcars. The total investment exceeds 50 billion rubles.

      One notable result was the modernization of route No. 5 from the "Myza" stop to Lyadov Square. Here passenger flow increased by 32%, and the average tram speed rose from 11 to 18 km/h.

      In 2025 it is planned to complete the expert review of the design documentation for the remaining sections and to reconstruct another eight substations. Construction of Depot No. 2 is on schedule and should be completed by the end of 2026. Documentation for Depot No. 1 is under expert review, and Depot No. 3 is in development. Ninety-two new trams have already entered service on the line — more than half of the planned number.

      Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Evgeny Lyulin emphasized that it is important to monitor not only the technical execution of the work but also the condition of the urban environment along the tram routes. He instructed deputies, together with the City Duma, to oversee the landscaping of areas along the tracks.

      In particular, parliamentarians will check the quality of road junctions to the tram lines and monitor the installation of new shelter pavilions. According to the chairman of the relevant committee, Vladimir Soldatenkov, replacing the contractor on a number of sections in the Avtozavodsky district has already allowed the pace of work to accelerate.

      Recall that the tram infrastructure modernization project has been implemented since 2022. Funding is provided from federal and regional budgets, as well as preferential loans from VEB.RF and the National Wealth Fund. Most federal funds are allocated in the form of a capital grant.

      Earlier it was reported that in September traffic on two streets would be temporarily restricted due to tram track repairs in central Nizhny Novgorod. On the Oksky Descent in Nizhny Novgorod the contractor has begun trial runs of the tram tracks. It also became known that the tram loop on Ivlieva Street in Nizhny Novgorod is planned to be repaired in 2026.
