The scientific-artistic exhibition "Atom. Future" (6+) opened at the Pakgaus exhibition hall on the Strelka, timed to the 80th anniversary of Russia's nuclear industry.

As NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent reports, the exhibition presents a synthesis of scientific ideas and an artistic vision of the near future. The project showcases not science fiction but realistic and attainable technologies that could appear soon. Young artists and scientists took part in creating the displays. Most exhibits were created specifically for the exhibition, while some were borrowed from the "ATOM" museum at VDNKh.

The exhibition is divided into several thematic zones. "Into the Depths of Matter" is a multimedia installation that immerses the viewer in the microworld. The second zone, "Gallery of the Future," includes more than 50 artworks devoted to areas such as quantum technologies, inexhaustible energy, electric propulsion, and the development of space and the Arctic.

Special attention is paid to energy issues. The "Inexhaustible Energy" hall covers the prospects of thermonuclear fusion and a closed fuel cycle. The artworks here are inspired by young scientists' accounts of technologies capable of providing humanity with clean and safe energy. Exhibits include a plasma ring demonstrating the operation of a thermonuclear reactor and multimedia installations dedicated to plasma heating in tokamaks.

One section of the exhibition is dedicated to the development of the Arctic and the Trans-Arctic transport corridor. Visitors can see a diorama depicting the meeting of the world's first nuclear icebreaker, Lenin, and the icebreaker under construction from the "Leader" project.

Works dedicated to deep-space exploration are also presented, including models of an orbital tug and power modules needed for inter-orbital transport.

Display cases feature a spacesuit from the Mars-500 program, as well as artistic concepts of lunar and Martian bases which, the exhibition's authors stress, are not fantasy but are based on real scientific developments.

Elena Mironenko, director of the "ATOM" museum, emphasized that the project has become a striking example of the synthesis of science and art. In her view, artists and scientists, despite different approaches, strive for the same thing — expanding the bounds of the possible.

Oleg Berkovich, Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, said the exhibition is especially interesting to the younger generation. He noted that such projects help children and teenagers reflect on the future, choose a path in science and technology, and see what tomorrow could be like if they are not afraid to think big. Berkovich plans to take his children to the exhibition as well.

In the coming days the "atomic" exhibition will be supplemented by another hall dedicated to education.

Earlier it was reported that the 80th anniversary of the atomic industry was marked in Nizhny Novgorod with a large-scale theatrical show (16+) featuring a Bolshoi Theatre performer, actors, and singers.
