Incidents
A 76-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod fell victim to scammers, losing her apartment and more than five million rubles, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry’s Nizhny Novgorod office reports.
According to the police, over the course of two months unknown callers posing as employees of a telecommunications company, the military prosecutor’s office and the police phoned the elderly woman. Under the pretext of cancelling a suspicious bank transaction and the need to "declare funds," the perpetrators convinced the pensioner to sell her two-room apartment in the city’s Moskovsky District.
After the transaction was completed, the woman was instructed to put the 5.2 million rubles she had received into a black bag and hand it to a stranger near one of the buildings on Genkina Street. After receiving the money, the perpetrator fled.
The victim contacted Police Department No. 7 of the Nizhny Novgorod Interior Ministry. A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "fraud committed on a particularly large scale."
Earlier it was reported that in Nizhny Novgorod an 88-year-old woman fell victim to telephone scammers, losing more than 900,000 rubles over two days. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel. Subscribe to stay informed about major events, exclusive materials and breaking news.
