EconomyResidents of the Nizhny Novgorod region have been able to set a self-ban on obtaining loans and credits since August 2025 by applying in person at any MFC branch in the region.
As Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Yegor Polyakov explained, the self-ban service via the Gosuslugi portal became available to Russians as early as March and has already proven popular — almost 309,000 residents of Nizhny Novgorod used it. Many people were interested in the possibility of submitting an application in person with the help of specialists.
Now this option is available at multifunctional centers. To register a self-ban, it is sufficient to present a passport or another identity document. Foreign citizens will additionally need to provide a notarized translation of the document.
It is important to note that the self-ban does not apply to mortgage, educational, and car loans, and it does not affect existing contracts.
According to the rules, the ban comes into force the day after the application is submitted. If necessary, it can be lifted, but no later than three days before taking out a new loan. The number of times the ban can be set and lifted is not limited.
As Svetlana Musarskaya, director of the Nizhny Novgorod Region State Budgetary Institution "Authorized MFC," noted, the innovation allows citizens to better control their financial decisions and protect themselves from ill-considered borrowings.
Earlier it was reported that demand for new housing in Nizhny Novgorod strengthened against the backdrop of a cut in the key rate. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
