Pregnancy benefits for Nizhny Novgorod's female students will be increased nearly eightfold.

From September 1, 2025, female full-time students in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast will be able to receive an increased benefit during maternity leave. The amount of the pregnancy and childbirth benefit will now be calculated not from the scholarship, as before, but from the subsistence minimum, the regional branch of the Social Fund of Russia reported.
The payment will equal 100% of the subsistence minimum for the working-age population established in the region. In Nizhny Novgorod Oblast this is 18,169 rubles per month.
The change applies to everyone studying full-time on a state-funded or paid basis. The payment will affect not only university students but also those in colleges, institutions of additional vocational education, and research organizations.
The benefit is paid for 140 days — 70 before childbirth and 70 after. Currently the amount depends on the scholarship. For example, if a student receives 2,400 rubles per month, then for the entire maternity leave she receives about 11,200 rubles.
From September 2025 this amount will increase nearly eightfold — to 84,780 rubles.
To receive the money, one will need to submit an application to the Regional Branch of the Social Fund of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. A medical certificate and a document from the educational institution confirming that the student is enrolled full-time and is going on maternity leave will also be required.
Documents can be submitted via the public services portal, in person at the Social Fund's client service, or through an MFC (multifunctional center). The application is processed within 10 working days. After that, the funds are transferred within 5 working days.
It was previously reported that the Social Fund pays benefits to Nizhny Novgorod mothers when they are dismissed due to the liquidation of an enterprise.
