A cat used as a drug courier was detained at a Nizhny Novgorod penal colony.

      Staff of Correctional Colony No. 7 in the Nizhny Novgorod region thwarted an attempt to deliver drugs using a cat that the perpetrators tried to use as a drug courier, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for the region reported.

      The offenders came up with an original method of delivering prohibited substances: they made a special collar to which packets of drugs were attached. The cat, as they intended, was supposed to enter the colony grounds and deliver the contents to inmates.

      However, the perpetrators' plan did not work. Thanks to the attentiveness of the colony staff and their professional actions, the delivery attempt was detected and stopped in time.

      Those detained have been handed over to law enforcement for further procedural actions. An examination showed that the seized substances were the narcotic cannabis.

      Recall that in February 2025 a teenager from Arzamas tried to pass drugs hidden in candies to an inmate of a pretrial detention center.
