42 schoolchildren from Nizhny Novgorod will receive the region's named scholarships in the new academic year.
42 Nizhny Novgorod schoolchildren will receive named regional scholarships in the new academic year. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Education and Science. By decision of the supervisory board operating under the ministry, 22 students were awarded the Nizhny Novgorod Region scholarship, and another 20 children received the scholarship named after Academician Y.B. Khariton. The amount of each scholarship is 2,000 rubles per month. The Nizhny Novgorod Region scholarship will be in effect from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026, and the scholarship named after Academician Y.B. Khariton will run from September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
As the Minister of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Mikhail Puchkov, said, more than 130 schoolchildren took part in the competition for the scholarship. The largest number of applications came from Nizhny Novgorod; students from Arzamas, Sarov, Chkalovsk, Balakhna, Gorodets and Dzerzhinsk also showed high activity.
"The main criteria for awarding the Nizhny Novgorod Region scholarship were students’ achievements in particular fields of science, as well as the high results they demonstrated at the All-Russian Schoolchildren Olympiad and international olympiads in the previous academic year. To receive the named scholarship of Academician Khariton, students had to show success in the physical and mathematical sciences and become winners or prizewinners of intellectual olympiads of various levels," the minister explained.
Mikhail Puchkov emphasized that awarding a regional scholarship is a significant achievement for a schoolchild.
"All students who study science in depth, work hard and achieve results can apply for a named scholarship at school. In this way we strive to support young researchers and show them that scientific achievements always open up new opportunities for further development for young people," he said.
It should be recalled that payment of regional scholarships, including the Nizhny Novgorod Region scholarship and the scholarship named after Academician Y.B. Khariton, is made from the regional budget.
Supporting talented schoolchildren is one of the areas of work within the national project "Youth and Children," which has been implemented in the country since 2025 at the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The new national project addresses tasks previously provided for in the national projects "Education" and "Science and Universities," and includes nine federal projects and programs: "Russia — a Country of Opportunities," "We Are Together," "Russia in the World," "All the Best for Children," "Leading Schools," "Teachers and Mentors," "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," "Universities for a Generation of Leaders," and "Professionalitet."
