Police officers in Sormovo have solved the theft of a backpack containing the personal belongings of a Nizhny Novgorod woman.

      In early July 2025, a 38-year-old resident of the Sormovsky District of the regional center filed a report with the police about the theft of personal property. She discovered the disappearance of a backpack containing documents, two mobile phones and 17,000 rubles after consuming alcohol with a new acquaintance.

      Criminal investigators, during operational-search activities, established the identity of the suspect. A 43-year-old native of the Moscow Region, previously convicted of theft, was detained by detectives and gave a confession.

      Police established that after meeting and drinking together, the man took advantage of the Nizhny Novgorod woman's inattention. Having stolen her backpack with belongings, he used someone else's property for his own purposes, thereby causing the victim damage totaling 39,700 rubles. In addition, investigators found that using mobile online banking the offender stole more than 6,000 rubles from the complainant's bank account.

      On these facts, criminal cases have been opened in Police Department No. 1 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod on signs of a crime under parts 2 and 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft). Pending the preliminary investigation, the suspect has been remanded in custody. The criminal investigation continues.
