A criminal case has been opened in Krasnobakovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast based on materials from a prosecutor's inspection concerning illegal logging.

      The Krasnobakovsky District Prosecutor’s Office conducted an inspection of compliance with legislation in the field of forest use.

      During an inspection of the forest fund lands of the Krasnobakovsky district forestry, illegal felling of forest stands was discovered. As a result of unlawful actions, 71 trees of various species were destroyed. The total damage to the state amounts to 590 thousand rubles.

      On this fact, the supervisory authority sent the inspection materials to the investigative body to decide on criminal prosecution. Following their consideration, a criminal case has been initiated and is being investigated under part 3 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal felling of forest plantations on a particularly large scale).

      The progress and results of the investigation, as well as compensation for the damage caused to the state, are under the control of the district prosecutor’s office.
