Rosselkhoznadzor stopped the import of contaminated fruits into Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

      Employees of the Rosselkhoznadzor department for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and the Republic of Mari El prevented dangerous plant products from entering Russia. Violations were detected during inspections of cargo and luggage at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport, as well as at a temporary storage warehouse. The department’s press service reported this.

      According to it, in July, during a search of the hand luggage of a passenger arriving from Uzbekistan, inspectors discovered 13 kilograms of fresh apricots that were not accompanied by the required phytosanitary certificate. The products violated plant quarantine legislation. As a result, 8 kilograms of the fruit were seized and destroyed by heat treatment in a special oven at the airport.

      Later, on 6 August, at the Technoprom temporary storage warehouse, during an inspection of a batch of limes weighing 2.16 tonnes that arrived from Brazil, Rosselkhoznadzor specialists found a quarantine organism — mulberry scale (Pseudalacaspis pentagona). The insect was found to be viable, as confirmed by laboratory tests conducted at the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the FSBI “VNIIZh.”
