An excursion steam train carrying tourists derailed near Arzamas.

      Incidents

      In the evening of August 9, a tourist steam locomotive derailed on the railway section between Arzamas-1 and Soloveyko stations in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the Gorky Railway press service.

      On excursion train No. 6904, traveling from Arzamas to Nizhny Novgorod, one of the locomotive’s wheelsets came off the rails. At the time of the incident there were about 40 passengers on board. Fortunately, none of them were injured, nor were the members of the locomotive crew.

      The train consisted of two carriages and was operating a suburban tourist service. The causes of the incident are still being investigated.

      A recovery train was promptly dispatched to the scene. The carriages were uncoupled from the steam locomotive and, with the help of another locomotive, returned to Arzamas-1 station. From there passengers will continue their journey along the route.

      The schedules of other trains remained unchanged.
