In the first seven months of 2025, the number of auto tourists visiting the Nizhny Novgorod region increased by 24.2% compared to the same period last year, according to the region's Minister of Tourism and Small Businesses, Sergey Yakovlev.

He stated that such growth indicates high interest in tourist routes and the attractiveness of the region's sights. Among the most popular destinations for auto tourists, the minister highlighted the "Arzamas–Diveyevo–Sarov" cluster, Nizhny Novgorod, Bolshoe Boldino, Vyksa, Semyonov, Gorodets, Chkalovsk, and Lake Svetloyar. Most travelers arrived from Moscow, the Moscow and Vladimir regions, the republics of Chuvashia, Tatarstan, and Mordovia, as well as from Ivanovo Region and Saint Petersburg.

"We will continue developing infrastructure and creating new opportunities for comfortable recreation for visitors to the region," the minister noted.

According to the regional Ministry of Tourism and Small Businesses, a route for auto tourists titled "Water Labyrinths, Museums, and Caves: Nature of Nizhny Novgorod in 2 Days" is available on the national portal Puteshestvuem.rf. It includes reserves with tropical plants, dendroparks, and crystal lakes.

Additionally, a special project on the "Znakom'tes, Nizhny" platform offers five routes — to Vyksa, Diveyevo, Arzamas, Bolshoe Boldino, and Nizhny Novgorod — for travelers along the M-12 "Vostok" highway.

The ministry added that the development of auto tourism in the region is being carried out as part of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality." Between 2025 and 2027, a federal subsidy is planned to fund the creation of tourism information centers, installation of navigation signs, sanitary modules, and other infrastructure objects.

The national project "Tourism and Hospitality," initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, is a continuation of the "Tourism and Hospitality Industry" project. It aims to develop tourist infrastructure, support domestic production, train personnel, promote travel across the country, and ensure high service standards.

Five federal directions are being implemented within the framework of the project: "Creation of accommodation facilities, infrastructure, and attractions," "Five Seas and Lake Baikal," "Production of domestic products for the tourism industry," "The country's tourist attractiveness," and "Tourism workforce."

Earlier, it was reported that the first modular hotel on the M-12 highway near Arzamas has opened.
