      Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region face a fine of 5,000 to 15,000 rubles if a fire occurs in their home and there is no autonomous fire detector. This was announced by Valery Sinkov, head of the regional EMERCOM department, at a press conference on August 7, according to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent.

      Fines are only applicable in the event of a fire. The owner of the property is responsible for the absence of the detector.

      According to Sinkov, autonomous fire detectors are one of the most effective ways to save lives during a fire. Since 2022, thanks to these devices, 45 people, including 15 children, have been saved in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      EMERCOM reminded that, according to fire safety regulations, homes of large families and families in difficult situations should be equipped with detectors.

      A program is in place in the region to install detectors in the homes of residents at risk groups: large families and those in difficult life situations. Since the program's start, more than 84,000 devices have been installed in such homes. Annually, 5.4 million rubles are allocated from the regional budget for the implementation of the program. In total, 21.6 million rubles are allocated for these purposes from 2022 to 2025.

      Despite the fact that detectors can be installed free of charge, many refuse this opportunity. Sinkov noted that this most often happens due to distrust or some fabricated reasons. As practice shows, after incidents, residents or neighbors often return and request the installation of a device.

      It was previously reported that over 80 new fire stations will be built in the Nizhny Novgorod region by 2035.
