      Dangerous bacteria found in drinking water in the Nizhny Novgorod region

      Dangerous bacteria were discovered in 55 water samples from various sources in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the testing laboratory of VNIIZHZ following seven months of research.

      Experts tested 278 water samples from January to July 2025. The samples included drinking and wastewater, water from rivers, lakes, ponds, and springs.

      Violations were detected in 34 drinking water samples, where standards for microbial count, enterococci, and E. coli were exceeded. An additional 20 samples from natural water bodies failed safety tests.

      The most dangerous finding was in wastewater — salmonella bacteria. Contaminated water can become a source of intestinal infections, cholera, and other diseases for humans.

      Earlier, Rospromnadzor decided to inspect the Nizhny Novgorod aeration station due to a smell.
