NGTU will receive 295 million to launch a center for the development of industrial robotics.
August 2, 2025, 17:49 [283] ScienceNizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseev will receive 295 million rubles to establish a Center for Industrial Robotics Development. The funds will be allocated under a specialized government program, and the university’s project took first place among 28 applications submitted to the competition. Significant assistance in preparing the application was provided by the Nizhny Novgorod Scientific and Educational Center (NOЦ), offering both expert and coordination support.
Since 2025, the development of industrial robotics has been part of the federal project "Development of Industrial Robotics and Production Automation," which is included in the national project "Production and Automation Resources," initiated by President Vladimir Putin. The competition was organized by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the operator being the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization "Innopolis University." Funding will be provided in stages until 2027.
The center, created on the basis of NGTU, will become an essential element of the regional infrastructure, promoting digital transformation and automation of production. Its key objectives include establishing a full-cycle scientific and industrial complex, implementing engineering projects, and developing and bringing domestic robotics solutions to market.
Nizhny Novgorod Governor Gleb Nikitin emphasized that developing modern industrial infrastructure and increasing labor productivity remain priorities for the region. According to him, the introduction of robotics helps offset the labor shortage and accelerates technological development by reducing manual labor and increasing the precision of manufacturing processes. He expressed confidence that the center will serve as a catalyst for technological modernization of enterprises and strengthen the region’s position as a center of engineering expertise at the federal level.
Deputy Governor Andrei Sanosyan noted that the center will focus not only on developing technologies but also on training specialists. He said that over 250 people are planned to be trained annually in the field of industrial robotics. He emphasized that demand for such specialists will only grow, as any new equipment requires qualified maintenance.
The center will also conduct technological audits and support modernization processes at enterprises. This will allow adapting production to the requirements of the modern economy and enhance the competitiveness of companies both in Russia and internationally.
Rector of R.E. Alekseev Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, Sergey Dmitriev, described the victory in the competition as a recognition of the university’s systemic work in technological developments and robotics. He thanked the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and Innopolis University for their trust, and also expressed gratitude to the Nizhny Novgorod NOЦ for support. According to him, the created center should become a significant driver of the region’s industrial transformation.
Alexander Tarasenko, director of the NOЦ, noted that the center’s creation will combine scientific and engineering competencies tailored to the needs of the real economy sector. He highlighted that the center will serve as a platform for interaction among developers, engineers, students, and industrial partners, facilitating technology transfer to manufacturing and strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty.
The competition was held in accordance with the order of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and Government Resolution No. 1781. When evaluating applications, factors considered included research and кадровый потенциал (personnel potential), technical base, as well as the significance and demand for the proposed solutions on the market.
The period from 2022 to 2031 has been declared the Decade of Science and Technology by the decree of the Russian president. The initiative’s goal is to attract young people to scientific activity, involve scientists and engineers in solving key issues of the country’s development, and raise public awareness of domestic scientific achievements.
