      Since the beginning of this year, employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Nizhny Novgorod Region have identified nearly 7,000 cases of driving under the influence.

      According to the press service of the regional GIBDD, a total of 6,920 motorists were stopped with signs of alcohol or drug intoxication. Of them, the fact of intoxication was officially confirmed for 6,124 drivers. Meanwhile, 2,630 people refused to undergo medical examination, which by law is equivalent to admitting guilt.

      A particularly alarming fact is that 796 of those detained had previously been deprived of their driver’s licenses for similar violations. Despite this, they again got behind the wheel intoxicated.

      Now, these citizens face criminal, not administrative, liability. The GIBDD emphasized that the work to identify drunk drivers will be continued intensively.

      It was also reported that in the first half of 2025, police officers detained 252 drivers in the Nizhny Novgorod Region who were traveling while intoxicated, thanks to citizen reports to emergency number 112.
