      The most accident-prone areas have been identified in the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to Vladimir Ezhov, head of the Regional Traffic Police Department, who spoke at a press conference held by NOIC, since the beginning of 2025, 137 people have died in road accidents in the region, an increase of 23.4% compared to the previous year. At the same time, the number of injured individuals also rose from 2,372 in 2024 to 2,559. The percentage of accidents increased by 3%, reaching 1,976 cases. The speaker noted that the most dangerous districts in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where the highest number of accidents occurred, are Kstovsky, Gorodetsky, Navashinsky, Vysokovsky, Volodarsky, Lukoyanovsky, and Semenovsky. Nizhny Novgorod itself is also included. Notably, one in five fatalities in accidents occurs in the regional capital, with two-thirds of these victims being pedestrians. According to the specialist, the share of accidents caused solely by drunk drivers has grown to 16%. Taking into account repeat violations and criminal cases, nearly 6,000 such offenders are identified monthly by traffic police officers.
