ZSNO initiated the creation of a headquarters to combat common hogweed.
On July 29, 2025, at 17:27 [153], Society. A field meeting of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, responsible for the agro-industrial complex and rural development, was held in Krasnobakovsky Municipal District. Participants discussed measures to contain the spread of Heracleum sosnowskiii (Sosnowsky's hogweed), reviewed successful practices implemented in the district, and the progress of the decisions made by the committee in March 2025. The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Denis Bakiev, Chairman of the relevant committee Igor Tyurin, representatives of the executive authorities, municipal entities, and invasive plant control experts. The central topic was the proposal to establish a regional headquarters for the fight against hogweed. It could include representatives from all organizations responsible for different land categories: energy companies, road and railway services, as well as utility enterprises. According to Denis Bakiev, the situation requires immediate and decisive action. He emphasized, "Heracleum sosnowskiii is not just a weed but a real environmental threat. It is rapidly invading new territories, and traditional control methods are no longer sufficient. We need to shift to a systematic approach that includes innovative and preventive measures to stop its spread and minimize environmental damage." Proposed solutions include restoring administrative-technical inspections and allocating targeted funding, which will be under strict control. Igor Tyurin, head of the agro-industrial committee, stressed the need to revise municipal land treatment contracts against hogweed. "It is important that contractors take responsibility not only for the destruction of the plant but also for long-term results. Responsibilities and guarantee commitments must be clearly defined so that hogweed does not reappear on treated areas," he stated. Regional Parliament Chairman Evgeny Lyulin also noted that effective fight against hogweed is impossible without close interdepartmental cooperation. He believes a unified monitoring system is needed, reflecting all information on the plant's spread. Additionally, Lyulin reiterated the personal responsibility of landowners. Earlier reports indicated that more than ten residents of Nizhny Novgorod sought medical help after suffering burns from hogweed. The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
