The cause of death of participant of the X-Waters Volga swim in Nizhny Novgorod could have been coronary artery thrombosis, which led to a heart attack. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of "Stationar-Press," Alexey Nikonov, in his Telegram channel.
He noted that even a person in excellent physical shape without bad habits can die suddenly. Such cases, as the channel author points out, are not rare. The cause may be coronary artery thrombosis, which can result in a heart attack.
"A thrombus clotted the arteries supplying the heart, and the oxygen-deprived section of the heart muscle began to die," Nikonov wrote.
The development of thrombosis can be influenced not only by lifestyle but also by genetic predisposition, chronic stress, chest injuries, as well as other, not always controllable factors.
The official cause of the athlete's death has not yet been announced. Earlier, former Russian figure skating team doctor Philipp Shvetskiy suggested that the tragedy could have been caused by acute cardiovascular failure against the background of excessive physical exertion.
Recall that the tragic incident occurred during the three-kilometer race. 42-year-old participant from Moscow, Dmitry Ionov, was participating in X-Waters for the seventh time. He felt unwell at the finish line, signaled rescuers, and was taken onto a boat. However, shortly after leaving the water, he lost consciousness. He could not be saved.
