Swimmer from Moscow died during a swim at "X-WATERS Volga" in Nizhny Novgorod

      A major swimming event took place on the Volga River in Nizhny Novgorod, involving over three thousand athletes. During the race, one of them became unwell and died. This information was provided by the press service of the SKR Investigative Committee for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      In Nizhny Novgorod, during a long-distance swimming competition, Moscow swimmer Dmitry Ionov passed away. It is reported that during a 3-kilometer open water swim, he felt unwell and sought help from rescuers. The athlete was quickly lifted onto a boat, but he lost consciousness on shore.

      Paramedics on duty attempted to provide medical assistance at the scene, after which Dmitry was taken to the regional hospital. Despite doctors' efforts, he could not be saved.

      Employees of the Investigative Committee of the Nizhny Novgorod Region have initiated an investigative review of the incident. Investigators are establishing the circumstances and causes, after which a decision will be made based on the review.
