Athlete from Moscow died during the X-WATERS 2025 swim in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Incidents During the X-WATERS Volga sporting event held on July 26 in Nizhny Novgorod, a participant from Moscow, swimmer Dmitry Ionov, tragically passed away.

      According to the relay organizers on social media, the athlete had participated in the competition multiple times—he had previously completed the X-WATERS Volga distance seven times. This time, he was covering the three-kilometer route.

      Shortly before reaching the finish line, Dmitry experienced a sudden deterioration in health and sought help from rescue personnel. When he was brought out of the water, he lost consciousness.

      The swimmer was promptly handed over to the on-duty paramedics. Medical staff immediately began resuscitation efforts and transported the man to the regional clinical hospital.

      Despite the doctors' efforts, it was not possible to save the athlete.

      The organizers expressed their deepest condolences to the deceased's family and noted that they are in contact with them.
