In the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a meeting of the committee on transport and road infrastructure was held. Deputies discussed the implementation of measures related to the construction, reconstruction, repair, and maintenance of federal motorways passing through the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod, Evgeny Lyulin, emphasized that the timing and quality of road works are under special control by regional parliamentarians.
Deputy Head of the "Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod" Road Management Department, Vladislav Pokorski, delivered a report to the parliamentarians. He provided information on the current state of 578 kilometers of federal roads in the Nizhny Novgorod Region managed by the department. According to him, 87% (504 km) of the roads fully meet regulatory requirements.
Special attention in the report was paid to safety issues. Thanks to joint efforts with the GIBDD Department and the Federal Road Agency, in 2024, there was an 11% reduction in accidents on the region’s federal roads, a 26% decrease in injuries, and a 25% decrease in fatalities compared to 2023. It was also noted that this trend continues into 2025: in the first six months, accidents decreased by 27%.
“Road safety is our absolute priority. Reducing the number of road accidents, including on federal highways, is an important achievement, but we cannot stop there. We will continue close cooperation with the Federal Road Agency and GIBDD to make the region’s roads more modern and safer for all residents of Nizhny Novgorod,” said Evgeny Lyulin.
During the meeting, deputies emphasized the importance of timely and quality completion of all planned works, paying particular attention to problem areas such as organizing a safe U-turn near Novosmolino (Volodarsky District) on the M-7 and winter road maintenance issues. The information on completed work and plans was noted, and control over project implementation will be continued.
“Our focus was not only on current repairs but also on the strategic development of the road network. It is important to eliminate delays on certain projects. We are monitoring safety issues at problem sites like the U-turn near Novosmolino and preparedness for the winter season. The information about extensive planned works provides us with a clear understanding of the development direction of the region’s road infrastructure,” noted Vladimir Soldatenkov, chairman of the regional parliament’s committee on transport and road infrastructure.
