      Work to eliminate the consequences of the accident at the Gorodets hydropower plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region is ongoing around the clock and is scheduled to be completed by July 26. This was reported by the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

      The deadlines were set after a technical inspection of the concrete bridge connecting chambers No. 15 and No. 16 of the sluice. It was in this bridge that on the morning of July 22, tilting toward the navigation lock during construction work caused a temporary halt in vessel movement.

      According to the federal Ministry of Transport, the main chamber of the sluice was not damaged. The obstacle will be fully eliminated by July 26. After that, Rostekhnadzor will conduct a safety inspection: the chamber will be refilled with water and test runs will be carried out. Only then will shipping on the Volga in the Gorodets hydropower area be restored.

      At present, divers have completed inspection of the submerged part of the emergency structure. The above-water part has already been fully dismantled. Additionally, a temporary earthen dam, which will allow the deployment of additional equipment to the site, is 95% ready.

      The agency noted that from July 23 to 25, 14 passenger ships were scheduled to pass through the hydropower. According to regional tourism authorities, tour operators have already adjusted their routes: some passengers are being transferred to other vessels, and others are being transported to their destinations by land. Excursions to regional attractions are also organized. Work is underway to address passenger compensation issues in collaboration with shipping companies.

      Currently, 57 cargo ships with a total cargo volume of over 100,000 tons are on standby in the fairways awaiting sluicing. According to Rosmorport, constant communication is maintained with the ship captains, all necessary resources are available, and issues are being addressed in a working manner.

      It is worth recalling that the accident occurred on July 22. On the section between sluices No. 15 and No. 16, the head structure collapsed, resulting in the flooding of the under-construction chamber of sluice 15A.
