      A criminal case has been initiated in the Votkinsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region regarding a fatal traffic accident that resulted in the deaths of three people and hospitalization of two others, including a child, according to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

      The accident occurred on July 15 at approximately 16:10 on the 565th kilometer of the M-7 "Volga" highway. According to police reports, a 56-year-old driver of a Gili Atlas vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an Audi, driven by a 32-year-old man.

      As a result of the collision, the driver and one passenger of the Gili Atlas died at the scene, another passenger died later in the hospital. The driver of the Audi and his five-year-old passenger sustained various injuries and were taken to a medical facility.

      A criminal case has been initiated under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of two or more persons.

      It was previously reported that the Gili vehicle was occupied by employees of the Cheboksary municipal district administration of the Chuvash Republic, returning from a business trip from Nizhny Novgorod. It is also known that the investigation of the tragic incident is being carried out by the State Labor Inspectorate in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
