      In Russia, 114 cases of infection with a new subtype of coronavirus called XFG (Stratus) have been registered. The majority of patients are residents of Moscow. This was reported by the "360" TV channel citing data from Rospotrebnadzor.

      The first case of infection was recorded on April 24, 2025. Infected individuals have been identified in Moscow (54% of all cases), Altai Krai, as well as in the Moscow, Magadan, Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad, Smolensk, Sverdlovsk, and Irkutsk regions, as well as in Saint Petersburg, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (KhMAO), the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO), and the Republic of Altai.

      According to Kamil Hafizov, head of the genomic research laboratory at the Federal Budgetary Scientific Institution of Epidemiology (FBUЗНИИ), the XFG variant does not lead to a more severe course of illness compared to previous strains. However, it spreads rapidly across different countries due to high infectivity.

      The symptoms of the disease are almost the same as those of the "omicron" variants, but the main characteristic is a hoarse voice.

      Earlier, a doctor from Nizhny Novgorod explained the nature of the new virus with a "coughing up blood." There were also reports of the virus being detected in bats in Hong Kong, which shares similar characteristics with COVID-19.
