Incidents A court in Nizhny Novgorod sentenced a man in connection with a nighttime collision between a motorboat and a sailing vessel, resulting in damages exceeding 3 million rubles. The Volga Transport Prosecutor's Office reports this.
The incident occurred in August 2023 on the Oka River near the metro bridge. A 43-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod was operating a Bayliner motorboat despite lacking a license and being under the influence of alcohol. There was a passenger onboard.
During movement, the boat driver violated safety rules and performed a dangerous maneuver while overtaking a sailing motor vessel. As a result, a collision occurred, causing extensive damage to the yacht.
The court found the man guilty of violating rules for operating a small vessel, which resulted in significant damage.
Considering the position of the state prosecutor of the Nizhny Novgorod Transport Prosecutor's Office, the offender was sentenced to a fine of 100,000 rubles. Additionally, he was disqualified from managing transport vehicles for 1 year and 6 months.
The court also approved the civil claim of the yacht owner and ordered the convicted individual to pay the full amount of the material damage caused.
It was previously reported that a court sentenced a former employee of the transport police, accused of accepting bribes for repairing boats.
